We are currently in search of a Major Gift Officer for an International Education Organization. The position is based in Annapolis, MD. This is a permanent, full-time assignment.

POSITION TITLE: Major Gift Officer

DURATION: Permanent

SALARY: 75,000 – 90,000/annual

 

Is This Your Dream Job? The Major Gift Officer will be responsible for building and managing a portfolio of individual major gift and foundation donors in the $5,000 – $100,000 range. They will report to the Chief Operating Officer. Over time they will also collaborate with the organization’s international employees to establish best practices with the fundraising offices that are abroad. The Major Gift Officer will be directly responsible for building a donor pipeline and developing fundraising strategies. They will be responsible for prospect research and supporting fundraising events. They will be a critical member of the team that is identifying, researching and monitoring areas of opportunity through major gifts, foundation giving, and corporate giving.

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • 5 years of fundraising experience while employed at a nonprofit, required
  • 2 years of experience securing major gifts and foundation donors, required
  • Experience fundraising within the Catholic community, required
  • BA/BS degree, required
  • Direct mail experience, required
  • Experience at an international nonprofit, preferred
  • Interested in international organizations and missions, required
  • Planned giving experience, preferred
  • MS Office Suite experience, required
  • Fundraising database experience, required
  • Able to travel nationally and internationally up to 20%, required
  • Fluency in French or Dutch, preferred
  • Proven success driving revenue from donors
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively on a team and maintain positive relationships with colleagues at all levels, required
  • Has strong organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and the ability meet deadlines; required
  • Has strong interpersonal and customer services skills
  • Has very strong verbal and written communications skills, required
  • Has very strong listening skills and is able to operate with discretion and confidentiality

 

How You Will Spend Your Day:

  • The expected annual fundraising goal for the first year: $250,000 – $500,000
  • Develop and implement annual work plan to ensure annual fundraising goals are met/exceeded
  • Develop and manage a portfolio of major donors and foundation donors (about 200 donors) in the $5,000 – $100,000 range in major markets and discovery markets
  • Create donor strategies and relationships to increase fundraising
  • Ensure donors receive: proposals on time, narrative and financial reports, invitations to organization’s events, and any other stewardship communications
  • Engage members of leadership team and country directors (in the US and abroad) in donor cultivation and fundraising solicitations
  • Support donor cultivation with research and briefing materials
  • Assist in advancing and securing major gifts through events, in collaboration with other staff and partners
  • Organize major donor cultivation events in coordination with the fundraising team.
  • Collaborate with other offices to plan events, as needed
  • Develop strategies to generate donor leads and to increase donor engagement
  • Participate in monthly portfolio meetings by presenting plans for cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation of donors
  • Participate in weekly status meetings with the Chief Operating Officer
  • Participate in event planning meetings for the organization’s speaking engagements
  • Proactively utilize the donor database for donor management and reports
