The pressure was mounting.
On March 12th, 2020, Nurys was a full-time staffing President and parent of two children.
By the morning of March 16th, Nurys was a full-time homeschool teacher moonlighting as a staffing President and parent of two children.
Like millions of mothers across the country, the stress of homeschooling was piling on.
Then came layoffs.
Coronavirus was striking at the heart of Nurys’ business. Organizations’ hands were forced. They were laying off her temporary employees in DC, San Francisco, and Chicago.
But then came an idea...
'What about hiring laid-off professionals?’ Nurys thought. ‘They can be tutors. We can help kids with homeschooling. And we can help give parents back their time.’
In that moment, MyKidzCoach was founded to be a support community for parents during Coronavirus.
By 33, Nurys Pedersen "had made it."
A top executive recruiter in the Washington DC, her
career was colored by raises, unexpected earnings,
and a desk on the top floor.
Then came, 34.
Suddenly for Nurys, rewards were replaced with remorse. Her workdays grew longer. Nights evaporated. And soon, exhaustion was confused for excellence.
"Welcome to the sweet smell of success," Nurys heard.
But by that time, she waved her goodbyes.
It was that year, in 2006, that Nurys started over. She moved out of DC, into a little downtown Chicago office, and started her own business.
She had one employee. She was the saleswoman. Operations manager. Marketer. Even the office receptionist greeting every guest that came through the door.
But soon, one employee turned into two. Two to four. And now, her organization has three staffing offices serving the nonprofit sectors of Washington DC, San Francisco, and Chicago.
Today, we know her formally as our President & Founder, Nurys Pedersen, of Careers In Nonprofits.
And she loves what she does.

A top executive recruiter in Washington DC, her
career was colored by promotions, welcomed earnings,
and a desk on the top floor.
But a decade in, feeling unfulfilled and searching for more, Nurys asked herself, "what could I be missing?"
So, leaving everything behind, she moved out of DC, and found a little office in downtown Chicago.
Upon arrival, Nurys began working with local nonprofits. They were making a difference. And she was helping them recruit staff. This time, her work felt different.
By 34, with no income, and no staff, Nurys founded: Careers In Nonprofits.
She was head of sales, operations and marketing. She was the office receptionist greeting every guest that came through the door.
