We are currently in search of a Nonprofit Senior Accountant for an Association. The position is based in Chicago, IL. This is a full-time, temporary to permanent assignment.

POSITION TITLE: Nonprofit Senior Accountant

DURATION: Temporary to Permanent

SCHEUDLE: Full-time (40 hours/week)

HOURLY PAY: $23.00 – $27.00/hour

SALARY: $50,000-$70,000/year

 

Is This Your Dream Job? The Nonprofit Senior Accountant will report directly to the CFO and is responsible for providing financial support to the organization. Duties include but are not limited to general ledger maintenance, payroll support, bank and account reconciliations, financial report preparations and monitoring company-wide internal controls. Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years’ experience in accounting or finance required
  • Prior experience in a non-profit organization preferred
  • Experience using Blackbaud Financial Edge and Abila preferred
  • Basic understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Intermediate to advance MS Office skills
  • Must be highly organized, flexible and able to manage multiple projects and employees
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team

 

How You Will Spend Your Day:

Daily and Weekly Duties

  • Maintains cash receipts journal in MS Excel
  • Recalculates and verifies amounts owed from agency invoices, charge slips and expense reports
  • Reconciles and posts employee expenses including credit card accounts
  • Prepares reconciliations and journal entries including payroll distributions, benefits, contributions, revenue and depreciation
  • Assists Chief Financial Officer with facility management duties, including property inspections, management of third-party vendors and supply orders and rent collections
  • Assists with filing in the Finance Department as needed

 Monthly Duties

  • Performs account reconciliations for cash, petty cash, investments, prepaid insurance, other prepaids, employee expense reimbursements, fixed assets, other liabilities and other assets
  • Reviews agency billings for timeliness and compliance
  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of monthly financial reports
  • Maintains fixed asset lapsing schedules in MS Excel and prepares monthly depreciation expense entry
  • Enters monthly billing, insurance and other reoccurring journal entries into Accounting System
  • Accumulates and summarizes monthly statistical information
  • Reviews payments to Foster Care families and ensures payments are processed in a timely matter
  • Assists Chief Financial Officer and Staff Accountant with other monthly closing entries in accounting system as needed
  • Monitors, maintains and reconciles fixed asset schedules
  • Performs annual fixed asset inventory
  • Reconciles monthly rent receipts

Other Duties

  • Prepares schedules and assists agency auditors as required in the final year-end audit
  • Provides monthly and quarterly information for the agency’s various funding sources
  • Serves as back-up to Staff Accountant in their duties as needed and required
  • Participates in quality assurance initiatives as needed and appropriate to improve service quality and ensure compliance with licensing, accreditation and contractual standards
  • Performs other duties as necessary to meet new funding requirements or as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer
